When the Wind Doesn’t Blow

Washington is whispering about a possibility of a surprise climate agreement between the United States and China. It may be announced when President Obama travels to Beijing next month.

Earthbeat host Mike Tidwell discusses the rumors and takes the temperature of the current climate talks leading up to the Copenhagen UN climate meeting with Julian L. Wong, a senior policy analyst at the Center for American Progress and Doug Boucher, the director of the Tropical Forests Climate Initiative for the Union of Concerned Scientists.

New measurements taken at airports across the US surprised climate scientists – the wind won’t blow. We speak to two scientists who are puzzling over the possibility that global warming may be slowing down the wind – Gene Takle, the director of the Climate Science Initiative at Iowa State University, and with Gavin Schmidt of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York.

Then, we get to the meat of the issue on climate change – by discussing the connections between meat and global warming with Washington Post economics reporter Ezra Klein.
