October 7th, 2008

Republican candidate Sarah Palin says that one of her duties as Vice President would be to oversee America’s energy policy. Both Palin, the Republican VP candidate, and Senator Joe Biden, the Democratic VP candidate, both seem to advocate increased drilling for oil in America, but the Obama/Biden ticket includes more clean energy sources than the McCain/Palin ticket.

Joining host Daphne Wysham to discuss the candidates’ views are Josh McNeil, the press secretary for the League of Conservation Voters – Kate Sheppard, the political reporter for the online magazine Grist – and George Farah, the founder of the non-profit group Open Debates.

Then we discuss the links between Palin’s proposed natural gas pipeline and the development of the Canadian tar sands. We go to Anchorage, Alaska to speak to Melanie Duchin, a global warming campaigner with Greenpeace Alaska – and Sue Libenson, the media director for the International Boreal Conservation Campaign.
