By rejecting nuclear energy we are condemning humanity to the use of coal for 200 or more years, or until everyone is dead. Caldicott will go down in history as another person responsible for the deaths of millions.

So, let's see... Earthbeat would have us pay attention to the IPCC when it comes to realizing we must act to stop climate change. But, we must not listen to the IPCC when it comes to deciding what, specifically, we should do.

Have I got that right?

Here is what the IPCC has to say about nuclear power:

"The life cycle GHG emissions per kWh from nuclear power plants are two orders of magnitude lower than those of fossil-fuelled electricity generation and comparable to most renewables (EC, 1995; Krewitt et al., 1999; Brännström-Norberg et al., 1996; Spadaro et al., 2000). Hence it is an effective GHG mitigation option, especially by way of investments in the lifetime extension of existing plants."

Obviously, the IPCC are blithering idiots who don't know one thing about nuclear, right?
