A REDD alert for forests. Host Daphne Wysham discusses how many industries want to buy their way out of carbon restrictions by paying other countries to stop deforestation. One new study says that could result in even greater carbon emissions. Joining her to discuss the issue from Greenpeace International are Michelle Medeiros, the Forests for Climate Coordinator, and Roman Czebiniak, political adviser on climate change and forests.

In Canada, a political battle in that could squelch carbon tax ideas in the U.S., we’ll hear from Tzepora Berman, the executive director for PowerUP Canada and Charles Komanoff of the U.S. Carbon Tax Center.

In the U.S., Congress is set to begin debate on the Waxman-Markey climate legislation, and yet many climate scientists say the bill draft isn’t setting its standards high enough to make a difference on climate change. We’ll hear from Phil Aroneanu, the co-coordinator of the group 350-dot-org, an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis and to focus on the number 350 as the safe level for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
