The ice at the North Pole nearly melted completely away this year. On this edition of Earthbeat host Mike Tidwell revisits some of his 2007 interviews about snow and ice. Starting off, a little ditty by Captain Sea Level, the mysterious federal employee who sang about Santa's melting northern home.

Next, we listen to an interview with Mark Serreze of the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado. Then it's on to a conversation with Margaret Williams of the World Wildlife Fund's Bering Sea program to see how the warm weather is affecting walrus and polar bears.

Snowpeople took the stage at a YouTube debate between Democratic candidates for President, check out that video here. But snowpeople aren't the only ones worried about no snow. Auden Schendler is the environmental director for the world-famous Aspen Ski Company in Colorado.

Finally, we check in with Chris Barrett, a snowplow operator in Ontario, Canada. Chris is also known as 'Wyldman' on the Internet message board for snowplow professionals - Let's Talk Snow.

Earthbeat today features talks and interviews with leaders from the developing world who participated in the Bali climate negotiations. We'll hear from Walden Bello of Focus on the Global South - Vicki Tauli-Corpuz, chair of the U.N.'s permanent forum on indigenous peoples - Martin Khor of Third World Network - and the Argentinian director of the Academy of Environmental Sciences, Raul Estrada Oyuela.

The perspectives you will hear will be different from that covered thus far in the mainstream media in the U.S. - a refrain focused on justice for the indigenous peoples and the poor from the global South - a critique of the way carbon trading has taken over the negotiations rather than actual emissions reductions - a critical discussion of the role of the World Bank in the climate talks - and a contemplation of the many challenges facing developing countries as the wealthy countries push so-called 'climate solutions' that may make matters worse for the poor.

Sweeping political changes in Australia resulted in a new leader - a new country signing up to Kyoto - and a brave new world where climate change is a major political issue.

Joining host Mike Tidwell to discuss the groundbreaking Aussie election is for the entire hour is Australia journalist Wilson da Silva. He's the editor-in-chief of the Australian magazines Cosmos and G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine.

They're joined throughout the hour by Cathy Zoi, the CEO of the Alliance for Climate Protection; Brenda Ekwurzel, a climate scientist with the Union for Concerned Scientists; and Joe Romm of the website Climate Progress.
