Hot Air & Egos

On this edition of Earthbeat, host Mike Tidwell reviews the myriad of climate bills winding their way through Congress with Katrina Managan, the global warming legislative representative for the National Wildlife Federation, and Joe Romm, the author of the book Hell and High Water and a blogger with the website www.climateprogress.org.
Then we turn to two physicists to get their opinion on the Virgin Earth Challenge, a $25 million dollar prize for the first scientific team to show it's feasible to suck CO2 out of the atmosphere. Ken Caldeira is the head of the Caldeira Lab at the Carnegie Institution in Stanford, California and Peter Schwartz is a professor of physics at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Finally, we take a long look at some of the egos currently involved in climate change action. Grist staff reporter David Roberts reviews The Elders, a group of the world's foremost leaders banding together for change, and Joe Romm returns to give us his first-hand impression of the recent Clinton Global Initiative.
