Days of Wine and Warming

grapesW.jpg

In Vino Veritas - in wine, truth. It's a saying that goes all the way back to the Ancient Greeks. Today on Earthbeat host Mike Tidwell takes a hard look at an industry threatened by our warming world. Purdue University's Noah Diffenbaugh looked into our future climate and found that 81% of the US premium wine areas are endangered.

For more than 150 years, Alois Lageder's family vineyards have produced exceptional Northern Italian wines. Now he's moving those grapes further and further up the Alps, in search of cooler temperatures.

Back in California, winemakers are focusing their efforts on sustainable practices. The president of the California Winegrape Growers Association - Karen Ross and Hector Bedolla - the vineyard manager for La Crema Winery in Sonoma have a lively discussion with host Mike Tidwell about the future of California winemaking.
